At some point in the course of your being a human and having friendships, you may question what are the signs of a good person. Are you a good person? How about the people who you hang out with? Are they good people? Do you hope to attract more people who model the goodness you’d like to see in the world?
Here are some basic traits of a “good person”. If you spot someone who shares these characteristics, you’ll know that as far as good peeps go, they’re legit.
Loyal
When we think of loyalty, maybe we think about a friend who doesn’t turn their back on a pal even when things get difficult. Loyal friends will stand up for you when others put you down. A loyal friend would not seek to have an intimate relationship with your husband or wife or boyfriend or girlfriend. These are all great examples of what it means to be loyal in a friendship.
Truthful
Another good quality that you might seek out in a friend would be honesty. Honest people do not make it a point to deceive others. An honest friend doesn’t do things like purposely confuse information, make up stories that are not true, or deny certain things that they may have said or done in their life.
Reliable
Another excellent quality of a friend who you might want to have in your corner is reliability. Being reliable means that others will feel assured that you make good on your promises. We get a sense of safety and dependability from reliable people. We know we can count on them for help and support.
Supportive
Speaking of support, this is another quality that one would wish for in a friend. Good friends have our backs. A good friend would ideally assume an optimistic attitude about whatever it is that you might wish to pursue in your life. Good people also offer a helping hand. This could be in the form of physical help, such as when you need a buddy to help you move from one house to another. Or, it could be emotional support – for example, being a willing ear to hear your problems from time to time.
