Have you ever had a long day that turns into a cranky morning the next? Do you have self-defeating thoughts about random things constantly and wish there was just some way to quiet them so you can focus on the task at hand? Here are 5 tips for a peaceful morning.
Through a simple morning routine and meditation, you can set the pace for the rest of the day. After 15 minutes a day for just 3 days, you will experience a tremendous difference in mood, energy, and focus. Try it out for the next 3 days and find out for yourself the power that has always been inside of you. Luckily, virtually all of us can try this.
Step 1. Do your morning routine as you normally would.
Take care of personal hygiene, and enjoy that hot cup of coffee. If breakfast is your thing, ease into that. Take pleasure in the ritual, instead of thinking of it as a daily drudgery to check off your to-do list.
Step 2. Resist the urge to plug right into tech and start responding to emails and messages.
Instead, start with a good stretch and some slow, mindful breathing. Roll out your yoga mat if you have one. Moving your body in this way will get your blood flowing, and blood flow is the essence of life.
Step 3. Take a moment to appreciate nature.
Step out onto your porch to greet the sun. Go deep with your ponderings. Don’t just observe that you can hear birds chirping. Really open your ears and try to identify the different types of bird calls. Imagine what one might be saying to the other. These are the kinds of immersive activities that will really bring you into a mindful positive mental state.
Step 4: Go into a place of gratitude.
If you enjoy writing, let this be a morning reflection on putting pen to paper. It doesn’t have to be a tedious assignment. If today is not a day for long ruminations, then just take a few minutes and jot down things to appreciate.
Eventually, you’ll come to enjoy the peaceful feeling that steals over you while you are in your gratitude-happy place. You’ll begin to look forward to this daily ritual that sets the tone for your personal victories of the day.
Step 5: Set your affirmations.
If you’re a spiritual person, you can start with a prayer or a short set of wishes or intentions that you’d like to put in place. One day might look different than the next but there’s always something that you can be working on and morning is the time to get clear on that.
When you set positive plans into motion as the day dawns, you’ll have a sense of satisfaction and something meaningful to reflect on as the evening draws near.
