Do you remember Hillman College? What about the loveable student body that we came to know and love on the 90s hit series, A Different World?
Every week, we tuned in to watch how Denise Huxtable, Whitley Gilbert, Dwayne Wayne, Ron Johnson, and Jalessa Vincent would adjust to their “different world”. We watched these individuals, who became our friends, evolve and graduate from Hillman College.
As a proud Alumnus of an HBCU, Clark Atlanta University (Class of ’94), I still remember orientation where freshmen were given a book on the history of the school. We learned our school’s motto that day, “I will find a way or I will make a way.” Y’all, we have to find a way to live and survive together from 2020 and beyond. Do you remember the theme song for A Different World? The song was written by Bill Cosby, Stu Gardner, and Dawnn Lewis. The first line says, “I know my parents love me. Stand behind me come what may…”
This is my plea revising the A Different World theme song for the COVID era:
- We know our doctors love us
- Especially when Corona came our way
- Are we really ready, to see what happens if we don’t do what they say?
- Y’all it’s a different place than where we came from.
- Technology gives us a chance to connect it
- We just have to agree on our goals
- Nature dished it and we will beat it
- Let’s not increase the death toll
- Y’all it’s a different place than where we came from.
