Even if you settle down with the right person, you can develop deal-breakers if you aren’t pinpointing relationship issues as they develop. Once you realize there are issues in your relationship, you can begin working on correcting them so you can get back to loving each other. Issues in relationships are in no way an indicator of a lack of love. In fact, the more intense the love, the more frustrating having relationship issues can become.
Most Common – Pinpointing Relationship Issues
Here is a list of the most common reasons there are issues. Just remember this isn’t an all-inclusive these-are-the-only-issues list. There are many reasons there may be issues in your relationship.
Trust
There are issues with trust. Lack of trust can be one of the most harmful problems in any relationship. Without trust, a relationship lacks security and the feeling of safety. When pinpointing relationship issues realize that lack of trust can come from a variety of factors including jealousy, possessiveness, infidelity, lack of support, financial incompatibility, and dishonesty. Determine where the lack of trust comes from. Is it based on a pattern of repeated broken promises or is it coming from emotions such as jealousy without proof?
Communication
Difficulty communicating with each other causes many issues. A lack of communication can lead to distrust. Different communication styles such as talkers versus non-talkers can cause a rift between couples and one of the key areas to examine when pinpointing relationship issues. Knowing how you like to communicate, such as talking things out or the one who likes to simply move on helps you learn how to communicate better. Once you know the different communication styles, then you can devise a way to have better conversations. For example, if you are like to talk the subject out for a long period of time and your partner just wants to quickly find a solution and move on, you could set aside a specific time limit for each of you to say what you need to say about the topic, say three minutes each. If you are having trouble finding the right words, try writing a letter.
Money
Money issues can cause major issues. Arguing about money, debt, and finances happens in every relationship. The problem begins when one of you keeps debt or other financial problems from the other, causing distrust. Figure out why and when this started happening and make a plan to be open and honest with each other about everything.
Intimacy
Intimacy needs can be the issue. It could be the amount of sex you want or the way you want your sex life to like can be the complete opposite of what your partner wants. If one partner is pushing for sex when the other isn’t open to it, animosity can build. Sexual issues can also stem from other difficulties in your relationship. Decide what is causing the issue and communicate with your partner about it.
Stagnation
Boredom with your long-term partner can become an issue. Most relationships go through phases of feeling like they are in a rut. They love each other but don’t feel that “in love” feeling. It’s totally natural for your relationship to change. You may feel taken advantage of, ignored, or bored. This can happen when life responsibilities began to fill both of your time. This can be child-rearing, career obligations, or education. Figure out when or why this started to happen. Then take action to reconnect and relearn about each other.
There are many reasons partnerships can begin to fall apart. Digging deeper and pinpointing what and when the issues began helps you start the healing process to build stronger relationships.
